The Guthrie Lil’ Jags took on the Rangers from Patton Springs last night winning 56-7. With great defense and offense they are looking to win a district championship. The Lil Jags had scoring from Blane Blount, Cooper Jones, Kaden Mackey and others. The defense showed up to the game allowing the Rangers to score only once and only allowing three first downs. Getting help from the whole team the Lil Jags showed they are the frontrunners for the district championship. They are going to prove that next Thursday against Motley County at Jack Huey field.
Our students in Mr. Wilson’s Graphic Design and Illustration class have taken 2-D design to a whole new level. The students use programs like Adobe Illustrator to trace and create 2-D projects. Students have learned skills like patience, time management and that everything won’t always turn out perfectly. The fifteen students in the class really enjoy what they do and love to show off their creations.
In the class, students use Adobe Illustrator, which none of them knew how to use when they started. They all started out with simple pictures and traced them, forming vectors. From there, they could color in the vectors and make a picture, or print it out on the Cricut. This is the very first year that Black Box has had the Cricut. The Cricut is a machine that will cut out any design you’ve made on materials ranging from paper, vinyl, card stock and fabric. So far, in the class, the Cricut has printed mostly vinyl stickers. The students have had so much fun being able to print out their designs! All the students have made stickers for themselves and a few of them have started putting them on the website and selling them. Every Wednesday, new stickers will go up on the website under the store tab. All stickers are designed to be car stickers and are 5” by 5”, but if you would like smaller ones to put on your phone or laptop, just send them an email. On Tuesday October 21st, the Lady Jags and the lone Jaguars completed in the District Cross Country Meet. The Lady Jags finished second as a team with a total of 45 points. Reagan Maxwell finished 1st place with a personal best of 12:58. Candace finished 4th place with a personal best of 13:38, Cait McWhirter finished 12th place with a personal best of 14:36, Jaycee McCauley finished 13th with a personal best of 14:36, Gina Cheyne finished 15th with a time of 15:17, Tristin Lewis finished 17th with a personal best of 16:18, and Yaretzi Sandoval finished 18th with a personal best of 18:40. Good job Lady Jags! Jose Sandoval ran his personal best with a 16:43, and finished 5th! Outstanding job Jose! The Lady Jags and the lone Jaguar will run next week on Friday, October 31st in Lubbock at May Simmons! We hope to see you out there! Monday, Oct. 27th

Hello everyone! It is time for the second Book of the Month! No matter what your age, reading a good humor book can make a bad day better.
Prek - 2nd grade Book of the Month Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late by Mo Willems For the little kids who beg to stay up late, this book is for you! Pigeon really, really, really wants to stay up late, but, of course, the bus driver will not let him. The whole book is all the funny things Pigeon says to try to convince you to let him stay up late. This book really encourages the reader to respond, which is why it is a great children's’ read! I’m seventeen years old and I still enjoy reading them! 3rd - 5th grade Book of the Month Barfing in the Backseat: How I Survived My Family Road Trip by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver Hank’s dad entered a crossword puzzle tournament, and decided to make a family road trip out of it. Hank gets to bring along two friends, Frankie and Katherine, which makes the time go by faster. The only problem is that he has a homework packet to finish before they get to their destination to be able to go to the roller-coaster park, but it gets lost along the way! It’s a disaster! Will Hank find it and be able to finish his packet? This book is full of twists and turns with humor at every corner. 6th - 8th grade Book of the Month Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney This book is a classic junior high book. Sixth grader, Greg Heffley, is thrown into middle school where he gets to experience the “greatness” of it. He deals with bullies, weirdos, best friends and family in this first book of the series. There are drawings and comics on every page in the book. The book is set up as a diary, which makes it an easy read. This is a great book for any middle schooler that feels like middle school is more than they can handle! 9th - 12th grade Book of the Month How Not to be Popular by Jennifer Ziegler Maggie Dempsey has been moved all over the country by her second-generation hippie parents. She has left behind countless friends and even a boyfriend. This time, they’re moving to Austin, Texas, and this time she is going to approach the situation differently. She is going to dress as a mental patient, act weird, and do anything to prevent her from liking the new school and prevent people from liking her. She doesn’t want to be ripped from her sense of belonging again! Unfortunately for her, her plan doesn’t work. Disclaimer: Although these are great books, please know that Mrs. Shipman only has one copy of these books in the library. Really, the point of the Book of the Month is to spark your interest in reading, so if the book isn’t in the library, it’ll be okay. Mrs. Shipman and I have come up with a way for you to get a book when the selected books are checked out. There will be a list of books that you can look through and find a book on your level. On Wednesday, October 15th, the Lady Jags and Jaguars traveled to Rule to compete in the cross country meet. The Lady Jags were in a three way tie with Stamford, and Jayton with 64 points. So to break the tie they went and looked at the 6th place runners. Sadly the Lady Jags lost by one point and ended up 2nd place. Reagan Maxwell placed 4th with a 14:20, Jaycee McCauley placed 13th with a 15:34, Candace Tarver placed 14th with a 15:41, Gina Cheyne placed 16th with a 16:00, Cait McWhirter placed 17th with a 16:02, Tristin Lewis placed 32nd with a 16:55 and Yaretzi Sandoval placed 49th with a 19:30. Way to go Lady Jags!! Jose Sandoval ran a personal best with a 19:09 and placed third place! Outstanding job Jose! Junior High girls and some of the 6th graders and one 5th grader ran and they did great! Coulter Reel (a 5th grader) ran a 14:56, if she was in 7th or 8th grade she would have placed 2nd. Karlie Van-Meter placed 4th with a 15:16, Morgan McCauley placed 6th with a 15:21. Abighail Jones, a sixth grader, ran a 16:20 and would've placed 13th if she was in 7th ir 8th grade. Same with Joliey Brawley, Aubrey O'Neil, and Kirsten Smith. Joliey ran a 18:57 and would've placed 35th, Aubrey O'Neil ran a 19:20 and would've placed 37th, and Kirsten Smith ran a 20:20 and would've placed 48th. Way to go Junior High! The Jaguars and their undefeated season took the field on Thursday against Petersburg. The Jaguars had a lot riding on this game. It was Guthrie’s homecoming and the Jags just had to keep their season going with a win. As everyone knows the Jaguars were favored in this game, and they showed up to prove that they are a team that needs respect.
The Jaguars started the game of on defense and held the Buffaloes on their opening drive and got the ball back. On the ground, Landon Roberts took it in from 49 yards out to put the Jags up 6-0. The Jags mean defense showed up to this game, stopping the Buffaloes on every possession they had. Starting off the turnover’s was Christian Rocha intercepting a pass, giving the ball back to the Jags. Back on offense the Jags went back to the ground with Roberts again on 12 yard rushing touchdown putting the Jags up 14-0. On the next possession the Jags got another interception but this time by Dion Vasquez. When the Jaguars got the ball back again they kept with their ground game and again it was Roberts but this time with an 8 yard run putting the Jags up 22-0. The Jaguar defense didn’t give the Buffaloes a first down the whole first quarter. The Jaguars caused 3 turnovers by the Buffaloes in the first quarter. Christian Rocha picked a fumble and gave the ball back. When the Jags got the ball back they scored yet again, but this time it was Tucker Brendle on a 17 yard touchdown putting the Jags up 30-0 with a minute left in the first. With the ball back the Jags gave it Paden Rothwell from 3 yards out putting the Jags up 36-0 ending the first quarter. Starting the second the Jags kept the ball on the ground, giving it to Roberts. Roberts scored from 5 yards out putting the Jags up 44-0. The Jags defense stepped up this game, and didn’t allow the Buffaloes to get near their endzone. Getting the ball back the Jaguars put the game away giving it to Paden Rothwell again from 11 yards out. The Jags won 52-0. I don’t know if y’all have seen these guys play but they have something great going on. You have a chance this Friday as the Jaguars take on the Chillicothe Eagles at Jack Huey field in Guthrie, Texas. Hope to see y’all there. Three years ago, Guthrie CSD started the tradition of having a chili cook-off the night of the bonfire. There are four categories that are judged: chili, cornbread, dessert, and decorations.
