Ashton Gilbert, a senior at Guthrie High School, is not only a successful FCCLA member, but is a Region I Officer. Being a Region Officer is more time consuming and difficult than being a regular member. Ashton helps build and run a region meeting for FCCLA members, and goes around the region promoting FCCLA and helping students develop leadership skills. The process of becoming a Region Officer is very difficult and includes running for election, presenting speeches, and interviews. “Holding an office on any level is difficult, but on the region level all the responsibilities for preparing and running a region meeting for hundreds of students can be a hassle.” Ashton has bettered his skills in public speaking, human interactions and more after becoming a region officer. FCCLA has many benefits for all of their members. It has taught Ashton life lessons in building a healthy family, preparing oneself for the future and how to better one's community. “It's taken me all over the nation, and I got to meet Tony Hawk and Vince Gill because of it. It's taught me many leadership skills much like our Guthrie Graduate Profile has.” His best FCCLA memories include all the people he has met and laughs and stories he has shared with other members. FCCLA is a great organization for high school students looking to improve the leadership skills. Whenever you’re away at meetings, it feels like a home away from home. All the friends you make at FCCLA are friends that you keep forever. If you’re looking to join, don’t hesitate to talk to Ashton or Mrs. Daniel! |
