Senator Drew Springer met the with Guthrie high school on Friday, October 24th. He addressed some of the issues that are affecting Texas today and talked to them about his duties as a Representative. He covers a large rural area that contains many small district schools. Mr. Springer feels that the most important part of his job is to be the voice of Texas’ smaller communities. Some of the topics that he talked about included the water restrictions, new abortion laws, and the state’s affect on small schools. He explained that what may be best for schools in large cities, such as Dallas, may not be the best thing for small schools like Guthrie. Mr. Springer also told the students that he felt the need to serve his civic duty. One of the points on the Guthrie Graduate Profile is Compassionate and Responsible Citizens, which could be related back to what Mr. Springer was saying. He knew of our Graduate Profile and said that it was a great idea. He also commented on the work that is being done in the Black Box Studio. Summer Wright was singled out for her phone holder project. Senior, Brady Roberts said, “It was very interesting to learn about our state’s government and how it is run. I also enjoyed meeting the man that represented our area at the state meetings.” |
