Trent Van Meter is the new girls basketball coach here at Guthrie. I got to sit down and talk to him for a little while. He told me that there is one starter from last year, after losing four seniors. They will have 9 girls playing basketball this year (4 freshman, 3 sophomores, 1 junior, 1 senior). Trent also said the girls will be inexperienced as far as varsity playing time, but he has a great group of hardworking and motivated young ladies.
Van Meter has coached at Hartley, Aspermont, Andrews, and Crosbyton. This is his 18th year to teach and 13th year to coach.
His biggest accomplishment is making it to the Regional tournament at Aspermont, state cross country meet in Aspermont, Crosbyton, and Guthrie, and state track meet at Hartley, Aspermont.
"The goals for this year, as always our goal this year is to win district and make playoffs," says Van Meter, "we know that it is a tall order with Paducah, Motley County, Spur, and Patton in our district, but we should still be focused on a goal, and our goal is to win district."
Van Meter also stated that there will be some learning curves to work through due to lack of the experience, but they will work through those curves and strive to succeed... TOGETHER! Good luck Lady Jags!
