Once again it is time for the summer reading 2019 programs! The Texas State Library supplies libraries with theme and materials, for, this year’s program theme “A Universe of Stories”. Just some of the activities we’ll host, (all based around astronomy and space), are astronaut role-playing, rocket-building, ‘glo’-planets, power-packs, t-shirts, and rover-landing designs. We’ll implement stories with learning and include games and snacks too!
Participants who attend 2 programs and read 8 books on-level (juvenile readers count 30 pages per 1 book, so a 240-page book would count for the ‘8’ books on-level for them) will be able to attend the field trip, supported by King County and Guthrie CSD, to Lubbock to attend the:
- Science Spectrum’s Bubble Planetarium,
- Gatti’s Pizza, for a meal and ‘earned’ game card play which means the kids read and keep a log as reward, (completely up to their desired goals), and visit
- Barnes and Noble, who will give each child a free book from a selected section for reading the 8 books and filling out Barnes and Noble’s log!
We will announce later WHEN we’ll host the field trip, but to let you know for planning, the trip will be scheduled for a week day between July 13-31, 2019.
Programs are designed age-appropriately; however, with family dynamics and time-involvement – for families who have several grade levels to attend - we can adjust activities to accommodate if need be. When deciding the time for your child’s program we design those for the grade your child was in this past year.
KICK-OFF is Wednesday, June 5, 2019 with programs on each consecutive Wednesday in June, finishing with the last program July 3, 2019. Program times are as follows:
Pre-School 1:00-1:45
K & 1st 2:00-2:45
2nd & 3rd 3:00-3:45
4th & 5th 4:00-4:45
We sincerely hope to see you there! We so enjoy your children with ‘fun in the summer’!
Summer Library Hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays all summer long until August. Please call ahead if you live out-of-town in case of emergencies!
