Congratulations to Kevin Contreras and Quincy McMorries for winning 1st Place in the Area 17 TCEA Robotics Contest. They competed and won in the Advanced Arena division on Saturday, January 26 in at Slaton HS against high school teams from all over West Texas. This marks the third year in a row this duo has earned a spot to the TCEA State Robotics Contest. This year's state contest will be on April 13 at Deer Park HS in Deer Park, Texas.
Also competing in the Area 17 contest were: Dion Vasquez, Jose Sandoval, LT Sharp and JJ Gibson. These young men performed very well, but fell just short of advancing to the state contest this year. Congratulations to all of these outstanding students. You represented Guthrie CSD very well.

GCSD has released an online survey for parents and community members to offer their thoughts on school safety, building security and emergency preparedness. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey below. Your input is important to the school district.
January is school board appreciation month in Texas. The Guthrie Common School District (GCSD) is blessed to have seven dedicated and selfless individuals serving as trustees on the local school board. The GCSD Board members for 2012-13 are: Jay Hurt (President), Travis Adams (Vice-president), Terry Daniel (Secretary), Brenda Jones, Justin Johnson, Terri O'Neal, and Toby Oliver. These fine public servants invest their time, their energy, their thinking, and their leadership (and a fair amount of sleeplessness) in the interest of making GCSD an exemplar among school districts and one that ensures a World Class education for ALL its students. GCSD is proud to acknowledge the work and service of these fine folks.
The Guthrie Library will be open abbreviated hours during the school's holiday break. Come see us and check out a good book or DVD to enjoy during your time off. Merry Christmas!

The Guthrie CSD faculty and student body engaged in team learning on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, as has been our practice for the last four years. Faculty gathered in groups to have dialogue on how they have attempted to address the Guthrie Graduate Profile (GGP) dimensions in their classrooms over the last four months. As well, discussions were had by the educators about how we might create learning tasks that address the academic curricula while at the same time aligning with the GGP.
While faculty were learning and thinking together, students were assembled by age groups to engage in learning activities centered on one specific dimension of the GGP: Effective Communications. The students were guided in those activities by communications consultant Stephanie Stanley-Allen of Lubbock, Texas, who did a marvelous job of providing students with sound and practical strategies for effectively communicating.
The GGP consists of five dimensions, which the Guthrie community has deemed powerful components for living, learning, and earning in a 21st century global environment. Those five dimensions are:
The professional educators of Guthrie have made a serious commitment to creating the best possible futures for our students, by focusing our efforts and resources in an intentional way on the whole child, not just the academic curricula. In the process, we recognize that the individual growth of the faculty/staff along those GPP dimensions is an important and critical piece in accomplishing that goal.
