Oh Yes! That time of year again for the Guthrie CSD & King County Summer Reading Program – Unearth A Story! We are ready and cannot wait to see you and your kiddos as we host learning, crafts, and games to help your kiddos continue with their new, and acquired, reading skills. As well, there is much exploring to do with our new titles geared especially towards dinosaurs, archaeology, habitats, and fossils - besides all the other great titles our school and county continue to support this library with.
Barnes & Noble, every year, encourages kids to read 8 books, on level, fill out ‘their’ form, and receive a free book from a
predetermined list, (printed on the back of their reading log) and new this year, unique stickers, for each two books read. Book selections begin July 1st and runs through August 31, 2026. You can find these forms on Barnes & Noble’s website under ‘kids,' or we have copies in the library.
Also, if kiddos will attend 2 programs and bring their ‘library’ reading logs with them on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, (from 8:00 to 3:00), they can attend our Summer Reading 2026 Field Trip to Lubbock to visit Texas Tech Museum to view the Dinosaur Exhibit and they will receive a ticket to the AirMaxx Tramp Park. (Lunch will not be supplied, but a packed sack lunch will be needed, or, snacks can be grabbed there at the tramp park). Please bring a pair of socks, or, you will have to purchase a pair at $3.00 per. Also, the school can provide your children with a ride, if they are 1st grade and above. IF your child is younger, we ask you to ride along as well, or you’re always welcome to meet us at each spot. The cost is covered of entrance to the tramp park by the Library. (But, please remember you must bring a sack lunch or be prepared to purchase from the snack bar.)
Please feel free to contact us if you have questions. We will do our best to serve you at any time you can come to participate, but ask you to remember some activities, crafts, and stories ARE age-specific. And, as always, remember our swimming pool is open on Wednesdays, and it’s a very good, clean, well-run pool, and kiddos can swim for $1.00 per visit, or a summer pass can be purchased for $10.00. (We know fuel cost is exorbitant, and you might not be able to make all 5 programs, but could combine a fun day at the library that includes swimming too!)
As well, you can call me if you need in the library at other times, or,we can possibly bring books and materials ourselves, or send with ‘others’ who might be traveling your way! We can make it work for you!
See you Soon!!
Sincerely,
JoAnn Shipman & Sierra Jones
