The Jaguars took a trip 30 miles south to take on the Aspermont Hornets and keep their great season going. They did just that defeating the Hornets 66-19, in a exciting game by the Jaguars. The spectacular offense from Guthrie started with the ball and picked up once again where they left off from the previous week. Tucker Brendle took a hand off right up the middle for a 4 yard touchdown run.
The Jaguars defense came out slow and allowed the Hornets to score 13 points in the first quarter. But as soon as the second quarter came the defense came and the Jaguars were on fire.
Back on offense, the jags did what they do best. Run the ball. Brendle took a sweep and ran it in from 44 yards out, with exceptional blocking by the Jaguars front line. Christian Rocha added the extra point and it put the Jaguars up 16-7. Rocha was 5 for 7 on extra points. The defense stepped up and made a huge stop and got the ball back. Back on offense, Landon Roberts took it in again on run from 39 yards out. That run put the Jaguars up 24-7. But the Jaguars weren't done yet, on the next kickoff Landon Roberts took it back all the way to the house with a 68 yard kick return.
Not letting the Hornets score, the Jaguars got the ball back and immediately scored on a pass from Quarterback Christian Rocha to Tucker Brendle. The score was 40-13. Again with a huge stop on defense, the Jaguars went back to work on offense and scored on beautiful 38 yard pass from Rocha connecting with Dion Vasquez. At this point the Jaguars look like the team that was playing the first two weeks of the season. The Jaguars had a let down and let the Hornets into the endzone but came roaring back with a touchdown of their own. With time running down in the half, the Jaguars picked up the tempo and scored on 26 yard pass from Rocha to Roberts ending the first half.
After the half, the Mean Green were determined to end the game, and that is just what they did. Scoring on the opening drive with a 15 yard pass from Rocha to Brendle. Back on defense the Jaguars got a huge turnover from the duo of Graden Garrison and Tucker Brendle disrupting the backfield. Garrison recovered the fumble and gave the "O," the ball back. Wanting to end the game, the Jaguars threw a pass and ended the game. Zac O'Neal received a 49 yard pass from Rocha ending the game.
Even though it was an ugly win for the Jaguars, they still got their business done and kept their opportunity for a great season alive. Come out next week and watch the Jaguars play the Rotan Yellowhammers in Guthrie at 7:30. Hope to see you there.
The Lil' Jags win their opener against the Aspermont Stingers 38-6. Way to go Jags!

"My freshman year I was in Mr. Wilson’s class and he suggested that I help him repair some computers, he taught me what to do, and I've been doing it since then" says Sandoval. When computer accidents happen and screens get broken on laptops or iPads, Mr. Wilson takes them to Gustavo for repair. Sandoval says, "Replacing the screen on an ipad is the hardest part of that class, because you have to be really careful , because if you do something wrong to it, it is going to cost some money."
Gustavo took Principal Chisum's laptop which had a good screen but some problems with the keyboard, and replaced the keyboard on a laptop that had a broken screen. Gustavo also added some more storage capabilities to the laptop while he was at it, like it was no big deal. Techpowerup.com lists computer repair rates at a flat rate of $80.00 per hour, plus travel expenses. If the typical iPad screen repair takes Gustavo three hours, that would be a bill of $240.00 for labor, not counting the cost of the new screen and any delivery charges that may apply. Gustavo takes this job very seriously as he feels it will help him later in life.
Not only is Gustavo doing a great service for Guthrie CSD, he is honing his skills for his future in Diesel Mechanics. He plans to use what he is learning here at Guthrie High School to attend South Plains College and receive his Diesel Mechanic Certification. Sandoval says, "Diesel mechanics have a lot to do with using computers and technology." With his experience in repair work, he is heading into the right career and will one day make an amazing mechanic. If you see Gustavo walking the halls, tell him thank you for a job well done.

Hello everyone! For this semester I will be the head of Jag Insight, which will include special honors and events, Student of the Month, Jagfirmations, and my favorite, Book of the Month! (Shocker, right?) I will have four books for the Book of the Month; a pre-k - 1st book, a 2nd - 5th book, a 6th - 8th book, and a 9th - 12th book. Each month will be a different genre. I will email teachers and select students a small list of questions asking them about their favorite book of the selected genre. From the list, and my personal library, I will choose the four Books of the Month! Everyone please keep your eyes open for an email!
Most people would call it revenge, but it was more than just revenge. The boys from Guthrie rolled into Newcastle on Friday being the underdog, but that didn't scare the mean green away.
The boys from Guthrie picked right were they left off from last weeks game with their running game. Tucker Brendle started off the game with a 50 yard touchdown run with great blocking by the front line. The big foot of Christian Rocha added the extra point and the Jags were up 8-0. The solid defense stood tall and shut down the Newcastle running game and forced the Bobcats to punt on their opening drive. The Jaguars got the ball back and with the second play from scrimmage Landon Roberts took it for a 37 yard touchdown run.
I don't know about you guys, but does the running attack of Guthrie seem good or what? Quarterback Christian Rocha was 5 for 7 on extra points and put the Jags up 14-0, but the scoring wasn't over just yet. With the ball back, the fast and tough running of Brendle rolled into the end-zone from 33 yards out and the Jags went up 22-0. The Jags back on defense, didn't let the Bobcats go anywhere. With a great diving interception from Safety Zac O'Neal, the impressive offense got the ball back. The first play from scrimmage, Christian Rocha threw a 36 yard bomb to Landon Roberts and put the jags up 28-0 ending the first quarter.
Starting the second quarter the Jags didn't let up, and the Jags kept their foot on the throttle. With the ball back, the offense from Guthrie pounded the ball into the end-zone behind their big frontline for a 5 yard touchdown by Brendle. And the Jags were up 36-0. The Jaguars defense isn't something to be over looked, they kept the Newcastle Bobcats from only getting 3 first downs the whole game. Once again the mean green got the ball back and again Tucker Brendle Rolled into the endzone from 5 yards out behind the front-line. Which put the Jags up 42-0. The rush from Tucker Brendle and Graden Garrison, and LT Sharp and McClendon Hill the Bobcats couldn't even get a pass of without someone in their face. With the ball again, Brendle put it into the end-zone from 5 yards out again and put the Jags up 50-0. Some of the younger Jags got some action during the second, with Paden Rothwell and Kolby Jones getting some rushing yards. The last defensive play Christian Rocha reeled in a interception that ended the game.
The Jaguars look to keep on rolling next week as they take on the Hornets from Aspermont.
Tucker Brendle runs through as Landon Roberts lands a block.
