Since we were unable to do a Summer Reading Program because of the COVID-19, this year the GSCD/King County Library would like to invite kids 3 years through 6th grade to participate in a Summer Reading Challenge.
Click on the link below for the list of the challenges your kids can choose from but don't have to follow. Once they've read 5 books or a chapter book of 200 pages or more on their level, bring their list books read and challenges completed to the library to pick out a prize. The challenge start July 13, 2020, ending August 7, 2020. We will be open Monday the 13th if you need to come to the library for books and/or movies since we will be closed the rest of the week due to the waxing of the floors. If you need to books next week while the hallway is closed, we will have books on a cart in the foyer between the elementary hallway and the secondary hallway. There will be a sign-out sheet for you to write down what you checkout and a green drop box for return items. Encourage your children to keep reading through the summer. Stay safe and we hope to see you soon! After evaluating every possible option for a graduation ceremony this evening, with lightning and continued storms, there’s simply no avenue that will allow us to honor our students while ensuring the safety of our Guthrie family. As much as I hate to do it, we are going to postpone our graduation ceremonies until tomorrow morning. We will have our 8th grade graduation tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. Our HS graduation will follow at 10:30. As of now, we’ll plan for the ceremonies to be at Jack Huey Field, but that is subject to change depending on tonight’s rainfall. I recognize this creates potential inconveniences for family and others traveling this evening, and likely creates new conflicts with previous personal plans for Saturday, but I believe it’s our only option at this point. Governor Abbott's Executive Order prohibits any indoor graduations, so we are limited to our outdoor options.
8th graders and Seniors...I hope you can enjoy this evening with your families, and we’ll look forward to celebrating you all tomorrow. We can add this to the list of unique memories you've created this spring. Stay safe, Jags. Mother Nature has definitely not cooperated with our plans for graduation ceremonies tonight at Jack Huey Field. For now, we are going to postpone the start of our ceremonies until 9:00 this evening. This means we will plan for 8th grade graduation to begin at 9:00, and our HS graduation ceremony will follow immediately. I know this may cause inconveniences for families, but we want to ensure everyone is safe. We will continue monitoring the radar, and I’ll plan to make another school-wide call around 8:00. Hopefully, we'll be able to move forward with a plan at that point. As for the location of the graduation if we are able to have it tonight...I’ll let you know that decision as soon as we're able.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Stay safe, Jags. Being forced to transition to an outdoor graduation means some elements of our traditional ceremony must be eliminated. Unfortunately, we are not equipped to show our senior slideshow during this evening's outdoor ceremony. However, we still wanted everyone to be able to enjoy these memories with loved ones.
